What Happens If Your Video Sucks
If your videos suck, you are going to hurt your watch time. Which is going to hurt your long-term search engine rankings. You are also not going to get subscribers. And overall your channel is not going to grow.
I don’t make the rules but it’s just how it is there are certain things that human beings have come to expect when they’re watching videos. Certain things that happen in your minds, that make you think “hey this video sucks, this video is good or this video is not good”. And that’s what we’re going to go over.
Why No One Is Watching Your Videos
Tell me one thing what do you think makes for a good video that doesn’t suck. I am not talking about any type of fancy requirements. I am just talking about basic needs of a video that it should be entertaining or informative with a normal video and audio quality. These are the basic things. I am explaining all the mistakes below in brief.
You Are Not Providing Anything In Video
The first thing that makes videos suck is they don’t offer any kind of value to the person watching the video. When somebody comes to your channel to watch your video and think your video sucks and move on and not participate in what you’re doing because they think you have a lousy video and this is not got for your channel in any way. It’s not entertaining in any way, shape, or form.
It’s not helping anybody solve a problem, or educate them in any way. It’s not inspiring. It’s not shocking or doesn’t give any type of effect to any of the other senses when you’re watching the video. These videos don’t give any type of excitement. Just plain. You can’t win with these types of videos.
Your Lighting Setup Is Not Eye-Friendly For Your Viewer
You should have a proper lighting in your video so that a viewer can see everything clear what you want to show them. Your lighting does not have to be Hollywood style, does not have to look cinematic, it does not have to be perfect, it has to be good enough. You have to be able to see what’s going on.
You have to be able to see, if you are shooting an object of some kind, or another type of video that you might be making, you have to be able to see whatever it is that you’re talking about nice and clearly.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that you have to go out and buy a bunch of stuff. I’m not saying that. All I’m saying is that you have to be mindful of the lighting that is shining on you, or the objects that you’re recording when you’re making your videos so that it’s clear. White balance your camera so that your colors look normal.
YouTube has a ton of videos about this and I’m sure there are a ton of them that are specific to whatever camera that you happen to be using. If you’re speaking on video, make sure that you pull a lamp close to you or some other type of light, so that you’re getting enough light on your face when you’re talking.
If you have zero availability to any type of light, if you can’t move a lamp in your place because your parents are going to get upset, or if you’re in an office environment and you can’t move stuff around, you can always go outside and just use the Sun.
Or as long as you’re recording in the daytime you can open up a window, sit close to the window, and let the light from the Sun hit you indoors in that situation. If you’re interested in the lighting tutorial, maybe something that helps you go step by step through setting up your lights, let me know down in the comments and maybe I’ll create a blog for you.
Your Framing Is Not Accurate
Number three framing: Framing, in a nutshell, is basically where you position yourself on the screen. If your camera is too low, it’s not going to look good, unless you’re using it for the effect of some kind.
If you’re making skit videos or something like that, if the camera is up too high, that’s also not going to look good. You should position yourself in the middle of the screen.
Your Sound Is Not Good Enough
Audio quality: I’m going to through this one real quick as well because I talked about this one a lot on my blogs. Audio is half of the video experience. If your audio sucks people are going to think your video sucks. If your audio is awesome but your video is not so good then you still have a decent video.
I’m not sure why it works this way. But in our brains that just happens to be how it works out. I have another article on my blog about how to make your audio sound great.
You Are Not Doing Basic Editing For Your Video
Number five: One of the things that makes video suck is no editing. Everything on YouTube is running fast. It’s fast. YouTube is so fast that you have to keep the video moving and you do this by editing your video. Editing is kind of like the magic dust that makes videos worth watching.
